What is post-pregnancy care?

Post Pregnancy care refers to the first six weeks after your childbirth. This is a joyous time, but it is also a period of adjustment and healing for the mothers. During these weeks, you will bond with your baby and you will mostly have post-delivery checkups with your doctor.

In India, postnatal care is based on ancient Ayurvedic methods. This type of care includes herbal baths, postnatal massage, nourishing herbal-based diet, and belly binding. In the present day, even the most modern mothers still believe in traditional postnatal care.

Both Indian and Western methods are equally effective to the new mothers as they believe in healing and enjoying motherhood. Although, as trusted by many, Indian ancient methods are the most powerful during the post-pregnancy phase. Therefore, it is always beneficial to listen to the elders for post-pregnancy advice. Here are a few foods we recommend for better healing process post-pregnancy:

  • Moringa leaves
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Pepper
  • Dried Coconut
  • Methi
  • Lehyam
  • Almonds
  • Dates
  • Green Vegetables and Fresh Fruits
Important Tips to Get the Best Out of Your Post Caesarean Delivery Diet

Some basic tips to keep in mind concerning your diet to get the best out of what you eat:

  • Instead of having three heavy meals during the day, make sure you spread out your meal throughout the day and try to consume five to six small meals.
  • Maintain a gap of two hours between meals. In case you feel hungry, snack on some fruits or nuts in between.
  • Have a relaxed meal. Take time to properly chew the food before swallowing instead of gulping it down at once.
  • Ask your family members to look after your baby during this time so that you can have a peaceful meal.
  • Sleep whenever possible. A good sleep might be difficult with a newborn baby around, but make sure to catch a nap frequently as sleep will help your body repair and heal better and faster.
  • Avoid food that is not cooked at home. Consume only home-cooked food and include a lot of fresh ingredients in your meal.

A new mother needs to eat healthy for various reasons. First and foremost, the only food that your baby will depend on for the first few months is your breast milk. Anything you eat will have an impact on that. Moreover, due to pregnancy, there are many bodily changes and it cannot change back to how it was a few months ago very quick. Everything you eat will not agree with your constitution. Giving birth is a physical transformation that requires you to heal, therefore you need to eat the healthiest foods to make sure you heal as quickly as possible.
